Excerpt from Will of Thomas Meers of the Severn, Anne Arundel County, dated 16 May 1674, probated 9 Sep 1674:
I give and bequeath unto my cousin Christopher Rowles all my wearing cloths, one cow to be delivered to him immediately after my decease.

[Thomas Mears was a merchant & land agent who came to Virginia in 1640 and located on the Elizabeth River in lower Norfolk County. He served in the Virginia House of Burgesses and had been an Independent church warden. He subsequently became a prominent Quaker in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He may also have Christopher's father-in-law -- though no proof of this has been found.]

26 Jun 1690: Elizabeth Rowles, John Rowles, and Wm. Sutton of Anne Arundel Co. are held firmly bound unto their majesties King William and Queen Mary in the full sum of 39 thousand 6 hundred pounds of good tobacco in casque, etc. Condition of this obligation is that the bound Elizabeth Rowles of A.A. Co. is Administratrix of all goods and Chattles of Christopher Rowles, etc.
