    « COCKELL. John Cockell (d. 1 729) came from Methley (Y) to be Lord Lonsdale's steward before 1706 and lived at Lowther Hall. In 1724 he bought Christopher Blencowe's house at Townhead, Penrith, which became known as Cockell House, and in 1725 Bowerbank Hall, Penrith. He was succ. by his son John Cockell ("lately dead" 1760), who entered Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Penrith, 1708, † ...
