John Ottenbacher hired her to help out after his wife, Sybilla, died (August 11, 1932) at the age of 36, and John was left with the responsibility of seven children ranging from four days old to 16 years old. Therefore, he hired his widowed sister, Christina Schnaible, to help him but she died within one year of Sybilla's death.
