  22. LaemmleFN: Curt Renz has found the church records for this Hoffnungstal, Bessarabia, family in Winnenden, Waiblingen Oberamt, Wuerttemberg. Stumpp, p.523, says they arrived in Russia in 1827.
  23. "Christian Lemle," a farmer, age 28 years, 3 months, occupied a forward compartment in steerage with 1 piece of baggage. He traveled with Berreth relatives on his paternal grandmother's side, a party of 14 people. Their destination was Menno, SD. Noted in Date and Cause of Death column was "12-6" (meaning unknown).
  24. Patentee: Christian LAMMLE, Document No. 5069.
  25. A Declaration of Intent to Become a Citizen was sworn by Christian Lämmle Jr in Circuit Court, Walworth County, South Dakota on 20 March 1895.
On 27 May 1895, Christian Lämmle Jr. of Bowdle, SD filed his application for a homestead entry in a Homestead Affidavit at Circuit Court in Bangor, South Dakota because he was unable due to of distance and expense to appear at the Land Office in Aberdeen. His signature appears on the affidavit. His Homestead Application No. 9838 also contains his signature and was certified 31 May 1895 at the Land Office at Aberdeen, South Dakota with a Receiver's Receipt dated the same day for receipt of the $14 fee having been paid by Christian for the land entry of 160 acres with the following legal land description: the East half of the North West Quarter and the East Half of the South West Quarter of Section 26, in Township 124 North, of Range 74 West, of the Fifth Principal Meridian.
On 15 Oct 1901, Christian gave notice of his intention to make final proof to establish his claim to the land on 29 Nov 1901 before the Circuit Court of Walworth County at Bangor, the county seat. He supplied four names of potential witnesses, Michael Schmierer, Friedrich Ritter, Michael Büchler and Johann Büchler and signed the document. Subsequently, the notice was published for six consecutive weeks in the Bowdle Pioneer, a weekly newspaper published in Bowdle in Edmunds County, South Dakota. The notice appeared on the 24th and 31st of October and on the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th of November, 1901. A fee of $4.33 was charged for the publication. The notice also included two other settlers, Michael Schmierer and Friedrich Ritter, who would make final proof for their claims on the same day, and those two settlers were two of the four names that Christian had named as potential witnesses.
On the day appointed, 29 Nov 1901, Christian appeared in court with his two witnesses, Michael Schmierer and Friedrich Ritter. It is likely that all three took their oaths, testifying for one another on the same day. A Final Certificate of Naturalization was granted. In a Final Affidavit, dated the same day, Christian applied to perfect his claim, stating that he was a naturalized citizen of the United States and that he had resided on and cultivated the land since 15 June 1895. His signature appears on the affidavit. His Homestead Proof included his own testimony as well as his two witnesses, Michael Schmierer and Friedrich Ritter. It is evident that they all testified for one another on the same day. In his testimony, Christian stated that he was age 36 with a P.O. address of Bowdle, South Dakota. He had built a house 15 Jun 1895 and established residence at that time and had resided there continuously since. His family currently consisted of a wife and three children. Improvements were: a mud and stone house 16X37 Ft; a mud and stone barn, 18X26 ft; a mud and stone granary, 16X16 ft; a well, 41 ft deep; 85 acres breaking; total value $525. He had raised crops on the 85 acres for six seasons. He described the land as prairie land, most valuable for agricultural purposes. His witnesses further testified that Christian had settled on the land in May 1895 and established residence 15 June 1895. Christian's signature appears at the bottom of his Homestead Proof document. His signature also appears on a Non-Mineral Affidavit, dated the same day, testifying that there were no known mineral deposits on the land.
Final Certificate #5069 was issued 3 Dec 1901 at the Aberdeen Land Office certifying that Christian had made payment inf full for the 160-acre claim and was entitled to a patent. A Receiver's Receipt for $4 dated the same day was for the balance of the payment required for the entry of his claim. It was also noted that $1.35 testimony fee was received for 900 words at a rate of 15 cents per 100 words. The Final Certificate was approved 12 Dec 1902 and patented 31 Jan 1903; Recorded, Vol. 238, page 444; Land Office at Aberdeen, South Dakota.
