Charlotte Naylor was baptised on 21st August 1809 at Heckington in Lincolnshire, daughter of a farmer called William Naylor and his wife Ann.
On 1st April 1830, aged 20, Charlotte was married at Heckington to John Ward, a carpenter from the neighbouring village of Great Hale. After their marriage they settled in Great Hale, having seven children baptised there between 1833 and 1846, although three of their daughters died as babies and their youngest son died aged 17 in 1863.
Each census from 1841 to 1881 finds Charlotte and John living in Great Hale, often described as living on South Street. In 1871 they also had two grandsons and a boarder living with them.
Charlotte died on 8th July 1884 at Great Hale, aged 74. John survived her by ten years.
