Charlotte Brown was baptised on 25th February 1855 at Aldingbourne in Sussex, daughter of a carter named George Brown and his wife Mary Ann. Charlotte had at least three elder siblings and one younger brother. Charlotte's mother appears to have died when Charlotte was about six years old.
Charlotte appears in the 1861 census living with her recently bereaved father and siblings at Lidsey, a hamlet to the south of Aldingbourne parish. They were still there ten years later, when Charlotte was described as housekeeper.
On 26th April 1879, aged 24, Charlotte was married at Aldingbourne to an agricultural labourer named Edward James Robinson, who was 26. They went on to have five children together, although one died young. At the time of the 1881 census Edward was away from home on census night, but Charlotte and her eldest son were still living at Lidsey with Charlotte's father.
Around the mid 1880s the family moved from Lidsey to the neighbouring hamlet of Shripney, which fell within the parish of South Bersted. They appear there in each census from 1891 to 1911. Charlotte's father was still living with them in the 1891 census.
Edward died in 1917. He and Charlotte had been married for 38 years. Charlotte survived him by six years, dying in 1923, aged 68.

ch. 25 Feb 1855, Aldingbourne, Sussex: Charlotte daughter of George & Mary Anne Brown
Needs to be confirmed at West Sussex Record Office. This baptism has been linked to the Charlotte Brown who married Edward James Robinson on the basis that their marriage certificate names her father as George Brown and she consistently claimed to have been born around 1855 in Aldingbourne in the censuses after her marriage and had her father living with her in the 1881 and 1891 censuses after her marriage.
