Charles was a member of the John Birch Society. He was very conservative and very bigoted; also extremely ornery! He and Joan a mousey dog that annoyed the heck out of me.

Charles and Joan took me to visit the set of Bonanza in 1963. They knew the cast because the show would rent land from him to shoot outdoor scenes. I met all of the original cast of the show, and have autographs on the back of my 9th grade annual.
