!BIRTH, DEATH, SIBLINGS: Source: "Democratic Sentinel" issue of 5 Oct 1909 - published Bloomsburg, Columbia Co., PA > "THE DEATH OF C.R. HOUSEL Well-Known Resident Passed Away on Saturday Afternoon HAD BEEN ILL FOR A LONG TIME The Deceased Was a Former Highway Commissioner -- Charles R. HOUSEL died at his home on East Third street at about 1 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. Death was due to a complication of disease s. He was aged 78 on July 4 last. He is survived by his widow and the following children: William H., steward at the Lock Haven Normal School, H.G., a constable, who resides in Philadelphia; Irvin, of town and Bruce, who resides in Philadelphia. Two sisters, Mrs. William COLWELL and Mrs. Ed GERBER, both of Williamsport, also survive. The deceased lived in Bloomsburg or about thirty-five years. He was o ne time active in Democratic politics and served as a Highway Commissioner for the town of Bloomsburg. He was a native of Lock Haven. For a number of years he conducted a green grocery on North Iron street, and also had a fish market on South Iron street. He was known to almost every person in town, and although it was known that he had been seriously ill, the news of his death came as a shock to his friends." >
