"I found Charles Ellis [bro of Kate & Martha ] on WW1 site , all 28 pages of his med. , etc history. It has his mail address as 228 High Street Freemantle - seals his genetic fate - Kate Ellen's address at the time.!! Don't you just love offialdom ? ...lots of lovely incidental notes written down.- he was 5ft 7& a half inches tall, 121 pounds [ wish that thinness was catching ] ,tanned complexion, hazel eyes & dark brown hair . C/E religion.
One interesting note in the file as follows ;
page 10 of 28 / 6th May 1920 - a letter sent to M/s? M Castellan of 3 Nelson Street , Dublin Ireland .in response to her mail query about his health & whereabouts , I wonder if it was Alfred Ellis widow remarried & in Ireland checking on her stepson OR something much more interesting !!!???
He was in 28th Battallion , service no. 4729 WA.
Also a letter to his wife Mrs MMS Ellis of Georges Terrace , Perth notifying her of his impending return to OZ 1919."
Prior to enlisting Charles was a motorman in Fremantle and on his return to Australia he appears to have returned to his old occupation working up to an an inspector of Tramway Department in Freemantle.
