The Richland [KS] Citizen, 11 Sep 1941, Thursday

Charles Elmer Disney was born January 25, 1870 in Shawnee county, Kansas, near Richland on the farm which his father homesteaded. Here he resided until his death which occurred at St. Francis hospital in Topeka, on Friday, September 5, his age being 71 years, 7 months and 11 days. Mr. Disney was one of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Disney who came as pioneers to Kansas from Illinois in an early day. Six of the brothers and sisters preceded Charles in death.

He was united in marriage to Hattie Atchison, on April 11, 1895. To this union were born two children, a son Earl who died in infancy and a daughter Florence Hazel McElvain.

He was a charter member of the Odd Fellows lodge of Richland. He was active and progressive in community affairs, having served as a member of the school board and also on the township board for several terms. He always sought to improve community conditions and gave his best to the task.

Charley, as all his friends knew him, stood for everything that was good. He was a friend to everyone and everyone was his friends (sic).

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Hattie Disney of the home, his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo McElvain, his sister Mrs. Florence Wormwood all of Topeka. A number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at Pleasant Hill church Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock conducted by Rev. Roy E. James, a former pastor. Burial services were conducted by the Odd Fellows Lodge.

Mrs. August Scheetz and Roland McDowell sang, accompanied by Mrs. Wright Miller. The pall bearers were John Myers, Fred Van Nice, Elmer Matney, Merton Woodward, Charles Ready and John Jeffrey. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
