Subj: Davis family research Date: 12/31/2004 8:05:44 AM Pacific Standard Time From: DavisZepp2 To: vbaker@@htc.net, cassbutler@@cnmlaw.com, mckinz1@@tds.net, Delijim Dear Davis Cousins, According to my records, it's been a couple of years since I last corresponded with you concerning our actual or potential common Davis ancestors. Since that time, I have concentrated my genealogical research efforts on two other lines for which I had considerable information, but wanted to compile it all in a nice form for my children and other relatives. I also made a side excursion of about 6 months to write a regimental history for the unit in which one of my ancestors served during the Civil War (the 153rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry). My plan for 2005, after tidying up my records and files, is to make another run at Caywood Davis's ancestry, which still eludes me. Mary Ellen's hypothesis that his parents were Charles and Sarah Cummins Davis is still the best one in town, but I would like to find some actual documentation before pursuing the Charles-John Davis line further. Since my last contact, I have in fact poked around a bit more, but came up empty-handed. So, my point with this note is threefold. First, to wish you all a happy new year. Second, to let you know that I am still out here and still interested. Third, to ask whether any of you have uncovered anything new before I renew my efforts. I look forward eagerly to your replies, and thank you for your time. Obviously, if I come across anything relevant, you will be among the first to know of it. As an aside, I hope to visit southern Illinois sometime this coming year and will do some more digging there, though I am not overly optimistic of finding anything there as I believe the answer lies in the Cumberland Valley on the Tennessee-Kentucky border. Southern Illinois, however, is my home and I have not been there in almost a decade, so I have other reasons to visit. With best wishes and kindest regards, Dave Davis Arlington, Virginia Copies to: Carolyn McKinzie Mary Ellen Baker Jim Veregge Cass Butler PS. I am also considering the Family Tree DNA matching program which has a Davis project. The process only works for males with the surname Davis, so that cuts all of you out. However, if you have a male Davis cousin (i.e., a known relation via your Davis ancestry) he can serve as your surrogate. If you are not familiar with this program, you can check it out at http://www.familytreedna.com/ References
