Catherine (Katie) Patterson
d.25 Jan 1855
Facts and Events
CATHERINE (KATIE) PATTERSON was born circa 1816 at Indiana. The Indiana History magazine article states that she was born in St. Mary's Ohio. Ella Patterson, wife of Lathrop Cassman and Catherine Patterson, wife of Philander Cassman, were sisters.
She married PHILANDER CASSMAN, son of SAMUEL CASSMAN and ELIZABETH MORNINGSTAR, on 9 Aug 1835 at Wabash County, Indiana. The Tippecanoe Supplemental Marriage record lists the name of Samuel Cassman's mother as Katie Thomson. A poor transcription could mistake Patterson for Thomson. She and PHILANDER CASSMAN appeared on the census of 1840 at Delaware County, Indiana. She and PHILANDER CASSMAN moved to Tippecanoe County in 1843. They moved by covered wagon and established a home directly north of Lafayette and west of the Indiana State Soldiers home, where the Soldier's cemetery is now located.
She died on 25 Jan 1855 at just 39 years old. Her husband Philander died four years before her, just 35 years old. They left their five children orphans, aged eight to nineteen.
