Joseph Merrill bought 300 acres in Nacodoches Co.,TX 12/20/1839. Poss. father of Catherine. Unproven as of 11/1996. In the 1850 census the only Merrill in Houston was Catherine living with the Martin Snell family. Martin's wife was Emily Hadnot & they had an infant daughter also named Emily. The Snell's & Hadnot's were from NC & in the early deeds along with the Mundine's the Hadnot name is found. Also listed was Mary Jane Smith who was probably Marguerite Jane Merrill, obviously the girls father had died before 1850 & they were living with friends or relatives.
