Smoke Ferree CD - November 2004 Source: The Pennsylvania LeFevres, compiled by George Newton LeFevre, co-compiler Franklin D. LeFevre, Published by The LeFevre Cemetery and Historical Association, Strasburg, Pennsylvania 1952 Catherine? Lefever (9-049) Catherine is shown in the Book The Pennsylvania LeFevres as the first child of Christian Lefevre, born Sept.22, 1762. It also says she died young. There is certainly some inaccuracy in this information because it says the third child of Christian named Ann, born Nov. 21, 1765, married Peter Reese. There is only one known Peter Reese during that time frame and that was Peter Reese born about.1755-1794.The name of his wife was Catherine. It is possible that the information about these daughters is reversed. Peter was a probable son of John Rees of Strasburg Township, who in 1758 purchased 96 acres from Moses Feree. The farm John purchased was situated in the midst of Ferree and LeFever farms. Catherine would have been a very young bride to Peter Reese if the birthdate of Sept. 22, 1762 is correct. The first child born to Peter and Catherine was Henry born in 1776. Catherine would have been fourteen at the time. In support of this Peter Reese being married to this Catherine Lefever are elements of customary naming patterns. The couple had eight children. The first named Henry could be named for the uncle of Peter Reese. The second was named Andrew, which was an ancestral name in Catherine Lefevre's family. The third was named Peter for the father. The fourth was named Elizabeth, a name common to all area families. The fifth, Catherine, was a namesake for the mother, yet has a middle name and she seems to be the only child given one. Her middle name is Christiana. This name is somewhat unusual but could very well be a variation of Catherine's father's name Christian. Jacob the sixth child is a likely namesake of probable uncle Jacob Reese. Daniel the seventh would match as namesake to the grandfather of Catherine Lefever and John the youngest would fit as the namesake of the paternal grandfather. Catherine and Peter lived on a 18 acre farm at the intersection of Mt. Airy Road with Rawlinsville Road(now Truce Road) in Martick Township. They lived in a log home and had some type of outbuildings. Catherine became a widow in January or February, 1811. She never remarried and lived on the family farm until 1824. She then moved to Strasburg Township, to the home of one of her son's. She died in early 1830 at the age of 68 if the birth information in The Pennsylvania LeFevres is correct. References
