  3. Obituary: Charles M. DuMont. (Larned City Chronoscope)
    4 Mar 1887.

From the Larned City Chronoscope, March 4, 1887: Death of C.M. DuMont. Died at Eureka Springs, Arkansas, March 4, 1887, of congestive chill, Charles M. DuMont, aged 33 years and 9 months. The above announcement conveys the sad intelligence of the death of one of the most prominent young business men in this part of the state. Charlie DuMont, as he is known to our people, is the son of Mr. W.M. DuMont, and grew to manhood in this city. Soon after attaining his majority he went into the grocery business here with his brother and did business for several years as a member of the firm of DuMont Brothers. He was afterwards married to Miss Kate Hawkins, a niece of Mr. F.C. Hawkins. His health becoming poor he removed with his little family to California, and was in business at Los Angeles for two years, but the climate not benefitting him as he expected, he sold out and returned to Kansas, and soon afterwards opened out in business at Great Bend. About the 1st of last December his health became so poor he was compelled to quit business entirely, and about six weeks ago he removed to Eureka Springs, where he died as above stated. The remains were brought here on the 12 o'clock train Sunday and conveyed to the residence of his parents, where private services were held in the afternoon. At three o'clock the coffin was taken to the Presbyterian church. The funeral was preached by Rev. Shockley, the largest congregation that ever gathered in Larned being present. The remains were then borne to the grave and buried in Larned cemetery, the funeral cortege being over a mile long. Charlie DuMont died in the flower of his manhood. He was highly respected by all who knew him, and the bereaved ones he leaves behind have the sympathy of the entire community.

  4. Newspaper Article about the Hawkins Family in Kansas/Indiana. (Eagle Optic, March 18, 1887)
    18 Mar 1887.

From the March 18, 1887, edition of the Pawnee County, Kansas Eagle Optic: Mr. Samuel Hawkins, a brother of Messrs. F.C. Hawkins and John Hawkins, and the father of Mrs. C. M. DuMont, formerly a resident of this city, now living in Indiana was here the latter part of this week, greeting his old friends and acquaintances. He came for the purpose of taking his daughter and her little family home, and they left Tuesday afternoon for Indiana. Mr. Hawkins who left here about five years ago, expressed great surprise at the rapid growth this city has made since then.
