Catherine Crosbie's origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is in 1918 when she married a widower named Peter Sweeney, who was nearly 30 years her senior. They were married at Dumfries. Around 1928 it is known that Peter was living at Paisley in Renfrewshire. They were married for about fourteen years, until Catherine's death in 1932, aged 38. Peter outlived her by about fifteen years.
