    Catherine B. Downey, Aged 86, dies

    Mrs. Catherine Burtner Downey, aged eighty-six years and four days,
    died at 1o'clock Saturday morning at the home of her son John W.
    Downey.... Her death was due to inflirmities incident to old age.
    Mrs. Downey was born in Montgomery County, near Dayton, O,
    March 14, 1830.

    Came in a covered wagon

    When a girl she came with her parents. They came overland in a
    covered wagon and settled in Coles County. There she resided until
    her marriage to Cyrus Downey on Nov. 18, 1852. Then they moved
    to Westfield, Clark county, where they lived for many years. They
    moved to Decatur on Spet 18, 1884, and lived at 1535 North Calhoun
    street until the death of Mr. Downey on Feb 14, 1893. Since then Mrs.
    Downey has resided with her son John W. Downey, ....

    Mrs. Downey converted in early childhood and joined the United
    Brethren church, and always lived a true Christian life. About three
    years age she united with the Pentacostal Church of the Nazarene at
    Decatur and remained a faithful member to the time of her death.

    Leaves Six Children:

    Mrs. Downey is survived by six children: George Downey, John W.
    Downey, James E Downey, and Mary E Coloney, all of Decatur; Albert
    Downey of Rockville, Ind., and Charles H. Downey of Flint, Mich. She
    also leaves a brother, George Burtner of St. Cloud, Fla. There are 18
    grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was widely known
    among the older people and a host of friends.
