Karen Rasmusdatter was born on a farm in Ravnstrup in the parish of Norre Kirkeby. This parish is located next to Gundslev. She was the daughter of Karen Hemmingsdatter and Rasmus Hansen Moller. Her parents were not married. Just before Karen was two years old her mother married Anders Simonsen and in her later years Karen was sealed to her mother and Anders. Anders being the only father she really knew but at least we have the information knowing about her biological father.
She had two more sons: Ludwig Larsen Justesen born 1849 and William Alexander born 1862 who died in California in 1924. Grave site for both have not yet been found.
