The New Hampshire state record says 1814. It looks like 1814 but has the smallest resemblance to 1816 if the loop of the 6 is presumed to be squeezed shut. The town records do not appear to be available online. The History of Westmoreland also gives 1816 and presumably, like the NH state copy, is based on reading the original town records, again suggesting 1816 might have been misread as 1814 somewhere along the line. Additionally, all the census records so far located (1860 missing) suggest a birth in 1816. The death record gives different parents than the History of Westmoreland. It is assumed the death record is wrong as no evidence of such a couple has been located. But this is somewhat of an open issue. Certainly other children of Joseph and Mary Dudley appear in Warwick records, so Caroline's marriage there would fit that pattern. No probate for Joseph was found to confirm who his children were and as noted, the birth records from Westmoreland are not available online, so our identification of Joseph as the father is solely based on the secondary source. The calculated birth date from the age on the death record, and from the age on the gravestone, give a birth around 1813. Combined with the discrepancy over parents, this is a problem, raising further doubts the History of Westmoreland may have made a misidentification? However, in the photograph of the gravestone, it cannot be determined, with confidence, if the age is 51, as it appears, or 54 as reported. Simply note, an age of 51 would be a birth about 1817, much more in line with a birthdate in July 1816 than is the 1813 that the reported ages give. This needs more evidence.
