    Carol Sue Holmes Springer, 73, of Martinsville, passed suddenly from this life on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at her residence. She was born in Bedford, Indiana, on December 26, 1940 to the late Ralph D. and Donna (Spencer) Holmes.

    She graduated high school from North Central H.S. in Indianapolis and from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in education in 1963. On June 4th, 1966 she married Robert John Springer, and he preceded her in death on July 28, 2011.

    Carol began her teaching career in 1963 as a physical education teacher at George Washington High School, where she remained until accepting a position as a 7th and 8th grade English teacher from 1965-1968 for the Indianapolis Public School Corporation, School #61. From 1968-1979, Carol took a sabbatical from teaching to devote her time and energy to her family and raise her children. It was in 1978 that she and her husband, Bob, moved their family to Martinsville from Indianapolis. She had attained a master's degree from Butler University in guidance counseling and in 1979 she accepted a position with the MSD of Martinsville as a guidance counseling at the high school where she worked until her retirement in 2000.

    Carol was a member of the Indiana Delta Pi Beta Phi sorority at Purdue University, Tri Kappa sorority, Tuesday Morning Women's Bowling League and current vice-president of the Art Guild. She took pleasure in reading, traveling, playing bridge and golf, walking, watching pro-football, spending time with family and friends and most importantly, time spent with her two grandchildren.

    She is survived by a host of dear friends and loving family who will miss her deeply including her son and his family, Michael R. and Acile Springer and their son, Nathan R. Springer, of Greenwood and her daughter and her family, Mary E. and Jason Adams and their daughter, Lauren E. Adams, of Carmel.

    Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, December 10th from 5 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. Rev. Nathan Janssen will officiate at a graveside service on Thursday, December 11th beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross/St. Joseph Cemetery on Troy Ave. in Indianapolis where she will be laid to rest following the committal.
