    OXFORD - Carl E. Milligan, 83, of 174 Pleasant St., died Saturday, October 9 at the Veteran's Home in South Paris.
    He was born in Rumford July 13, 1921, the son of Ambrose and Rita Peabody Milligan. After graduating from Stephen's High School he served in the US Army 17th and 101st Airborne Signal Corp from 1941 to 1945 which included tours in France, Germany, Belgium and England.
    While in England he married his first wife, Eleanor Postlethwaite Milligan; together, they owned and operated dairy farms on Hall Hill in Rumford and Lake View Farm in Oxford. She died in March 1982.
    On September 30, 1983, Carl married Clara Stetson of Rumford and they enjoyed retirement in Oxford as well as in Fort Myers, FL.
    Mr. Milligan was a member of the Rumford Methodist Church, the Oxford Congregational Church, the American Legion and the Farm Bureau. He also served as a selectman for the Town of Oxford. Farming, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family were his favorite things to do.
    He is survived by his wife, Clara; four children, Eileen Laliberte and her husband, Richard, of Oxford, Rosalie Schwaner and her husband, Fred, of Hebron, Susan Paquin and her husband, Dennis, of Oxford and Jeffrey and his wife, Susan, of Skowhegan; grandchildren, Rick, Scott and David Laliberte, Wendy and Will Paquin, Eleanor and Fred Schwaner and Patrick and Katye Milligan; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Survivors also include brothers, Earl of Rumford, John of Portland and Merle of Florida and sisters, Shirley Farwell and Nellie Burgess of Rumford. He is predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor; brothers, Allie, Harold, Loring, Sabon and Philip; sisters, Minnie Hallett and Barbara Noble.
    A memorial service for family members was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 11, at the Oxford Congregational Church, King St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oxford Congregational Church.
    Funeral Alternatives of Auburn is handling the cremation.
