On the 1880 census for Pike County Ar, Caleb Jordan is shown as a sonof William H and Nan c y Cagle Ward and 7years of age. Wm and Nancy'sson Samuel Jack was living in their home on t h e same census. He andLucinda are shown with two children, Charley at age 2 and Susan, born w ithin the census year.

Descendants of Samuel J Ward assure me that Caleb was the son ofSamuel, not William and h i s tombstone suggests that he was born in1878 as does his marriage license. If Charley was t h e son of Samuelthen it isn't likely that he had two sons born within months of oneanothe r . I personally believe that Charley was the seven year old sonof Wm and Nancy and that Cal e b was the two year old son of Samuel andLucinda. Such a transposition would not be uncomm o n with two famileswith the same last name living in the same house. However, until Ihave m o re than my supposition I will leave the children as the censushas them. (GCH 22 Nov 1999)
