    "(4161) Caleb Fairchild. … He was in Stratford, Ct. in 1712 as 'he renewed covenant' at that time. Later was in Stonington [Connecticut], then in Hempstead, Long Island, and finally settled in New Jersey. Was in Whippany 1735, was appt. Sheriff of Pequannock Nov. 28, 1749 by Gov. Belcher. He and wife joined the Morristown Church 1742. He 'confest for disregarding the lot.' His will, made Oct. 4, 1773. "I bequeath unto Anne, my dearly beloved wife all my Estate'. Has following legacies: 'Joseph 10 pounds, Matthew 10 pounds, Gershon 10 pounds, Ebenezer 10 pounds, Mehitable 20 pounds, Sarah 5 pounds.' 'All current light money at 8 shillings the ounce.' 'within one year after my & my wifes decease.' 'Unto my well beloved sons Joseph & Ezra all my real & personal estate after my wifes decease'. Appoints Joseph & Ezra Executors. He d. May 1, 1777. ae 83 y & 7 mo. of smallpox. Will probated May 14, 1777."
