Obituary BETTY LEWIS STEPHENS Betty Lewis Stephens was born on March 27, 1914 in Radcliff, Iowa to James "Pat" Lewis and his wife Laura Cass Lewis. As a young child her family moved to Elk County where they made their home in the Cave Springs community before moving to Howard. Betty attended the Howard Public schools where she made many friends which lasted throughout her life. She was also a graduate of the Howard High School. When she was a young woman she met Bob Stephens and on February 19, 1933 they were married in Fredonia, Kansas. To this union were born four fine sons, Donald, Harold, Gary, and Ronny. Through out her life she made a home for her family in other cities but always thought of Howard as her true home. Betty was a loving mother to her four sons and devoted her life to caring for all of her family. Even though she was employed at times throughout her life, she will always be best remembered for her love and her devotion to her family. As a wife and mother she gave unselfishly of herself. She is survived by her husband Bob; four sons, Lt. Col. Donald of Manneheim, Germany, Harold of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Bary of Mountlake Terrace, Washington and Ronny, also of Mountlake Terrace, Washington. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Bonny Allen of Longton, KS; a father-in-law, Hershel L. Stephens of Howard, brother-in-law, Gene Dale Stephens and his wife Menzenita of Wichita, Kansas and a sister-in-law, Edith Zeleny and her husband Frank of Annapolis, Missouri. She is survived by 14 grandchildren and a host of loving friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 23, 1978 in the Zimmerman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Evans of the Howard United Methodist Church officiating. The casket bearers were Floyd Barnhart, John Batson, Clarence Carter, Lawrence Harmon, Chas. Ritz and Harold Young. Mrs. Robin Smith was the organist with Mrs. Curtis Morgan singing "The Lord's Prayer" and "God Be With You". Interment was in the Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard, Kansas. A memorial has been established in her name and memory with the American Heart Association, those wishing to remember her in this manner may do so at either of the Howard Banks or the Zimmerman Funeral Home. The service were directed by the Zimmerman Funeral Home, Howard, Kansas.
