Longtime Duncan resident Bessie Marie Giddens, 91, died Monday, March 28, 1994 in a Duncan hospital.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Lester C. Bell of Waco, Texas officiating. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Morehead-Goetz Funeral Home in Comanche.
Mrs. Giddens was born Feb. 21, 1903 in LaMasco, Texas, the first child of James L. and Blanche Bowerman. In 1923, she married Grover C. Giddens in Spanish Fort, Texas, and the couple made their home in Gas City, west of Duncan. They later established farms southeast of Duncan. A homemaker, she had been active in home demonstration clubs and was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Her husband died in 1962.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Bessie and Dr. Lester C. Bell of Waco, Javeta and Lance Clark of Meridian, and Georgia and Bob Williams of Dutch Mills, Ark.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Grover C. Jr. and JoAnn Giddens of Norman, and Jim and Sonya Giddens of Duncan; two sisters, Lottie Taylor of Prairie Valley, Texas, and Lennie Lamkin of Muenster, Texas; a brother, Edgel Bowerman of Waynetown, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be grandsons.
