"Benoni and Magdalene Culp came from Fairfield County, Ohio, in 1831, and settled in Findlay Township. In 1836 they removed to Section 20, Portage Township, where both spent the rest of their days. They reared eight children, four of whom are residents of the county."
pg 482: "The first school in Portage Township was taught by Frederick S. Ankeny, in the winter of 1836-37. It was held in the wagon shop of Benoni Culp, on Section 20, and was attended by the Culps, ..."
