According to Emery, Benoni came to Dedham from Palermo, Maine in 1848 with his four motherless children, Jesse, Wallace, Henry and John. He soon married Clarissa Johnson. They had two girls who died soon after birth, and a third girl born after his death. He was killed by a flying board at the 'gang mill' of Aaron Fitts.
