... (147) vii Benjamin Taylor McCue, b 11, June 1846, Nelson county, Va. ; m 21, Nov. 1872, Sallie J. Prescott, d 10, Dec. 1907, dau of Geo. Plummer Prescott, who came to Virginia just before the Civil war, from Hollis, New Hampshire ; this was President Franklin Pierce's home county and we find that he and Mr. Prescott were schoolmates and intimate friends.
Hon. B. T. McCue moved to Richmond in 1870, and for three years he was engaged in Produce Commission business. In 1878 he acquired an interest in the firm of "Prescott Tobacco Mfg. Co.," but retired from business in 1881. He was a member of the Board of the Central Hospital, from 1882-85, being Chairman of the Board the last two years ; during his connection with the Institution, the handsome new building was erected. Before moving to Richmond, he was school director of Henry county for twelve years and magistrate longer.
On the 31st of Dec, 1911, the Church of the Covenant, (Richmond, Va.) celebrated the Silver Jubilee of its faithful minister's connection with the organization. Since Rev. J. Calvin Stewart entered its pulpit in 1887, both the church and Sabbath school work has been greatly on the increase. Dr. Stewart is to be congratulated on his success, and Mr. Benj. T. McCue is most fortunate to hold membership in so noble a house of worship. He acknowledges his Christian life due to his father's religious training, and the careful studies of the Westminster shorter Catechism. ...
