Facts and Events
There was a Benjamin Jaques who came from Robin Hood Bay (near Whitby) in the 1850's. This family settled in Northumberland County in eastern Ontario. The poet, Edna Jaques, was a descendant of this family, Stella Mott wrote to the postmaster in Robin Hood Bay trying to establish whether this family was related - she received no response. Dr Gary Dickey, in California, did substantial work trying to establish a connection, but without success. The Jaques family from Robin Hood Bay were probably Huguenots. References
