"23. Benjamin³ Gilbert (Obadiah,² Thomas¹), born in Fairfield, Conn., about 1664; died there, July 1, 1693; … All that is known of Benjamin Gilbert is contained in the Fairfield County Probate Records, vol. 2 (1685), p. 107: 'A speciall Court held in Fairfield this 8 July 1693. Then an inventory of the Estate of Benjamin Gilbert deceased was Exhibited to said Court and it not being perfect and … of some person to act upon it, then this Court do see Cause so and do appoint Mr. William Reed with Adra Gilbert, widow and relict of the said deceased to act on the said Estate as Conservators and at present do order the geting in the wheat & … & keeping an exact account of what shall be disposed of ye said wheat and allso to geting in any other harvest belonging to the said Estate and so make return of what they do and how they find the sd Estate to ye ….' The inventory, taken July 1, 1693, was sworn to by the widow Nov. 21, 1693. There were no children."
