1822.
BENJAMIN BILLINGS COIT died in San Francisco, Cal., April 16, 1867, aged 65 years. He was the son of Benjamin and Sally Coit, and was born in Norwich, Conn., Sept. 10, 1801. He studied medicine at the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, where he was graduated in 1826. He was engaged in practice as a Physician in Buffalo, N. Y., Pittsfield, Mass., but chiefly in New York City, until 1849, when he removed to San Francisco. During the cholera season of 1832, he was so successful in his treatment of cases of this epidemic, in New York City, that he received from Mayor Lee a valuable testimonial in recognition of his services. In San Francisco, as he was one of the oldest physicians, so also he was one of the most esteemed, and not less for his private, than for his professional character. His health had been failing for two or three months, but his death occurred suddenly, from disease of the heart, while walking in the streets of San Francisco.
