    Benjamin Banta, a veteran of the civil war, died this morning at 3:00 o'clock at his home in Jefferson township, aged seventy-seven years. Mr. Banta had been ill for a considerable time. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Banta, four brothers, John, William, Henry and .Caleb Banta, and one sister, Mrs. Ellen Wolford. Mr. Banta was a member of Company B., Seventy third Indiana Volunteer Infantry and saw honorable service in the war for the preservation of the Union. 11/8/1916
