The son apparently was going to inherit from the estate of his grandmother, Mehitable (Safford) Hovey who d. 1754, in right of his deceased mother, and so chose his brother to be the guardian of his property until he would attain legal age, his father having remarried.]

  3. Newbury VRs, Vol. 1, p. 379 & 386, have some confusing entries that seem to be ignored by secondary literature, which only shows the above baptism (e.g, Source:Blodgette, George Brainard. Early Settlers of Rowley, Massachusetts (1887), Source:Daniel Hovey Association. Hovey Book).

PEARSON, Bartholomew, s. Bartholomew and Sarah, [born], Oct. 16, 1736.

And the Rowley VRs, p. 503, records the death of mother Sarah on 24 Oct 1736.

A birth of a daughter in Nov 1734, even if she died immediately, would not leave time for the birth of a son 7 months later in June 1735.

The birth date of 16 Oct 1736 is attractive because one of the likeliest causes of death of women in their prime was complications of childbirth.

However, generally church records tend to be more reliable, being recorded and printed, both, in chronological order. But there are exceptions to every rule.

The resolution of these confusing records is not known.
