    Nancy was the widow of Peter Reed. The Reed and Basham families had been close neighbors in Kentucky. When Fanny died, Barnett relocated to Scotland County, married Nancy and settled on the Peter Reed farm. He brought his slaves with him who lived on the Reed farm until the time of the Civil War, when Nancy gave them provisions to provide a home for themselves.
