!BIRTH-PARENTS-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN-DEATH: Bona Arsenault, HISTOIRE ET GENEALOGIE DES ACADIENS, vols. 1-6; 1630-1775; Quebec, Le Conseil de la Vie Francaise en Amerique, 1965; p. 678 (Port Royal); Univ. of Calif., Berkeley Library, CS31 A77 MAIN. A footnote after his name says he could be the nephew of Pierre MARTIN who married Catherine VIGNEAU, originally from Saint-Germain de Bourgueil. He is the ancestor of one of the two MARTIN branches in Acadia. Barnabe' was born in 1636, "would be the son of Robert & Marguerite LANDRY." [But this statement is refuted by others.] Barnabe' married in 1666 to Jeanne PELLETRET, the daughter of Perrine BOURG (who married 2nd to Rene' LANDRY) and a native of Paris. Six children are listed for this marriage. At the census of 1686, Barnabe' had died; in 1693 [census] his widow was married to Jacques VARNIER.

XXIII, no. 4 (Oct 1994); P. 118; own copy; these facts have been verified by the Centre d'Etudes acadiennes as accurate. "We know next to nothing about Barnabe' before his arrival [in Acadia], except that he was in no way related to Pierre. There was no Robert, brother, father or uncle to either."

!BIRTH-PARENTS: Child of Robert MARTIN, born in France, & Marguerite LANDRY. See: Landry Letters, vol. 1, issue 11 (Oct 1994).

!CENSUS: 1678, Clarence J. d'Entremont, "Recensement de Port-Royal," in MEMOIRES DE LA SOCIETE GENEALOGIQUE CANADIENNE-FRANCAISE; vol. 22, no. 4; p. 234; sent by PERSI in Jun 1999. On Folio 20: Bernabe MARTIN & Jeanne PELLETRE, with two boys and four girls. They have 4 head of cattle, on 6 arpents of land.

!DEATH: Died before the 1686 census, leaving a widow Jeanne PELTRET and 7 children, 2 unnamed. [The youngest named child is Estienne, age 8. Could the other two children have been born after Barnabe's death?]
