SPRINGFIELD - Barbara (Sias) Mayo, 82, of Roosevelt Ave., passed away at home Sept. 6, 2004. Born in Agawam April 17, 1922, daughter of the late Cyril and Ada (Birchenough) Sias and grew up in East Longmeadow, residing in Springfield the past several years. Barbara worked in her late husband's business, Mayo Bros. Automotive, while raising her children. She later worked for Casual Corner from 1977 until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of the University of the Third Age in Enfield, CT. Barbara enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. She also enjoyed traveling with friends, gardening, and her home. She loved taking care of her cats, Sassy, Bones and George. Barbara is the widow of Ateo P. Mayo who died in 1977, and leaves 2 sons, Arthur P. Mayo and his wife June of York Springs, PA, Curtis D. Mayo and his wife Kerri of Wells, Maine; 2 daughters, Dale Kalenkowitz of Enfield, CT and Senior Master Sgt. Elaine Mayo at Robbins AFB, Georgia. Her grandchildren, Lisa Meadows (her caregiver) and her husband Robert of Springfield, MA, Derek Kalenkowitz of Enfield, CT, Ashlee and Jonathan Mayo of York Springs, PA; a great-grandchild Matthew Ryan Meadows of Springfield, MA; 4 brothers, Cyril W. Sias Jr. and Robert Sias of Springfield, MA, Ernest Sias of Holyoke, Clifford Sias of Arizona; 5 sisters, Jean Horne of Texas, Lucille Flint of Longmeadow, MA, Nancy Avery of Springfield, MA, Flo Eades of Feeding Hills, MA, and Wendy Winberg of Florida. Funeral services and burial are private and there are no calling hours. Hafey Springfield Chapels is entrusted with these arrangements.
