Barbara Blosser, whose parentage is currently unknown and who was reportedly born in Virginia in 1733, married David Dovel about 1749. The couple had eight children, all born on the Dovel family farm near Alma, Rockingham (later Page) Co., VA: David Jr. (b. 1750), George (b. 1752), Bolser (b. 1755), Daniel (b. 1773), Peter (b. 1777), John (b. 1776), Elizabeth (b. ca. 1780), and Barbara, whose date of birth is unrecorded.

One of Barbara Blosser Dovel's grandsons wrote "Our Grand Mother Dovel died in the month of October, 1836. No true record of her birth was found. Consequently her true age at the time of her death was not known, she was very old. It was supposed by those that had known her longest that she was about one hundred years old."
