He was born before Samuel and Virginia were married, while Samuel's first wife was still alive. Most likely, he was Virginia's (possibly illegitimate) son, adopted by Samuel upon their marriage. All records found online originated after that marriage, and cannot shed light on who Asel's birth father was.[1][3]
