Arthur Cox was baptised on 23rd February 1873 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, son of Elizabeth Cox, formerly Ward, and her husband Thomas Cox, a wheelwright. He was their fifth child.

Sadly, Arthur died when he was only four years old, on 19th February 1877. His grave in the churchyard at Barnack reads: "IN / AFFECTIONATE / REMEMBRANCE OF / ARTHUR SON OF / THOMAS AND ELIZABETH COX / WHO DIED FEB. 19. 1877 / AGED 4 YEARS". When Arthur's father Thomas died seven years later, he was buried alongside his son.
