Anno 1780 / 9th November / Archibald Riddel in Auchinlect had a Son brought forth by his wife Jane Davidson named Archibald Witnesses John Fraser and James Davidson both there
Although the mother's name is given as Jane, it is presumed this is an error and it should say Mary - it seems unlikely that there would be two men called Archibald Riddle married to a woman called Davidson having children at the same time. Their given residence of "Auchinlect" would seem likely to be a variant spelling of the "Afflect" given as Archibald and Mary's abode on the baptism of their previous child the preceding year - both of which are presumed to refer to the place name Affleck to the east of New Deer, near the village of Maud.
