Archibald Dunlap is the son of Archibald Dunlap, Sr. and Elizabeth "Betsy" Baird. He married Margaret E. Minnick on 31 Aug 1830 by Rev. Francis McFarland in Augusta County, Virginia.
Data on Archibald's father: John Dunlap and his wife Nancy Colvin had 5 sons and 2 daughters, all from Campbletown, Argyleshire, Scotland. They emigrated to America in 1775, settling in Chambersburg, PA. Two of the Dunlap sons settled in TN and KY and the other 3 John, Archibald and Robert all settled in Rivershead on the headwaters of Middle River, Augusta Co., VA. John, a bachelor, lived with brother Robert until he was 80. Robert married Margaret Kerr, also of Summerdean. He died before the 1850 census. The Committee on Pensions, granted a pension to Mrs. Margaret Dunlap "The petitioner is the widow of Archibald Dunlap, who died in 1850..." on account of her son, Corp. James F Dunlap was murdered while serving in the Civil War in MO. J Capehart, who also served in Co. H, 7th Regiment of Cavalry, MO, killed him with a knife in the line of duty. Capehart was court-martialed and sentenced to 5 years in the MO state prison.
