Annie Wood was born on 15th October 1881 at Leeds in Yorkshire, daughter of Harriet Louisa Wood, formerly Dealtry, and her husband Thomas Wood, a railway guard. Annie was baptised at St George's Church in Leeds in February 1882. Some time between 1882 and 1884, when Annie's younger brother Harold was born, the family left Leeds and moved fifteen miles north to Harrogate. The 1891 census finds Annie living with her parents and siblings at 3 Queens Terrace in Harrogate.
By 1901 Annie had left home and was working as a domestic nurse for a family who had a baby son on Franklin Road in Harrogate.
The 1911 census finds Annie living with her parents again on Dragon Road in Harrogate. By this time her father was working as a relieving officer for the local authority.
Annie did not marry until almost the end of the First World War, by which time she was 36 years old. She married Harry Lewis, a postman, at St Luke's Church in Harrogate on 20th August 1918. They did not have any children.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Annie and Harry were living at 16 Dragon View on Skipton Road in Harrogate. They also had two civil servants living with them, who were presumably lodgers.
Annie and Harry remained at 16 Dragon View for the rest of their lives. Annie died on 7th May 1973, aged 91. Harry survived her by eighteen months. They were both buried at Grove Road Cemetery in Harrogate.
