Annie Kennedy was born in 1882 at Birkenhead in Cheshire, daughter of Jane Kennedy, formerly Leonard, and her husband Patrick Kennedy, a boilermaker. Annie appears in both the 1891 and 1901 censuses living with her parents and siblings at 27 Ivy Street in Birkenhead. By 1901 she was working as a soap packer.

Shortly after the 1901 census, Annie's father died. The following year, her mother married a naval pensioner and insurance agent called William Graydon, who became Annie's stepfather. The 1911 census finds Annie living with her siblings, mother and stepfather, still at 27 Ivy Street. At this time, Annie was working as a restaurant cook.

In 1918, Annie married Frank Kelly. In 1920 they had a son, but sadly Annie died shortly after giving birth. She was 37 or 38 years old. Frank survived her by about thirty years, bringing up their son alone.
