ANNA M. RANKIN 1919-2011

NEW CONCORD -- Anna Margaret (Osler) Rankin, 91, of New Concord, passed away peacefully Sunday (Oct. 9, 2011) at The Helen Purcell Home, Zanesville.

She was born in Highland Township, Muskingum County, on Oct. 16, 1919, daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Taylor) Osler.

Mrs. Rankin graduated from New Concord High School in 1937, being on the honor roll for all four years. She was a retired teacher who taught grades 1-8 at Stovertown School in Philo in Muskingum County, and grades 2 and 3 at Pike and Garfield schools in Guernsey County. She retired in 1976.

She graduated from Muskingum College in 1939 with a two year teaching certificate and completed her four year Bachelor of Education degree at Muskingum in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D. Alfred Rankin, daughter, Mary Beth (Rankin) Jones, and brothers, Archer T. Osler and Robert C. Osler.

She was a member of College Drive Presbyterian Church, New Concord, and had served on the session and as an elder.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David Alan Rankin and Florence Elizabeth (Little) Rankin of North Canton; grandsons, David Andrew "Andy" Rankin and wife, Diana of North Canton; Scott Alan Rankin and wife, Erin of Maineville; Adam Paul Jones of Cincinnati and Allen Taylor Jones currently serving in the U.S. Navy stationed at Coronado, Calif.; Anna was a proud great-grandmother to Samantha "Sami" Lynn Rankin of North Canton and Hadley Joy Rankin of Maineville.

Anna will be remembered as a teacher, Christian, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, and at her request, donations may be made to the scholarship fund of the Guernsey County Retired Teacher Association, P.O. Box 355, Senecaville, OH 43780, or to College Drive Presbyterian Church, 2 West High St., New Concord, OH 43762.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 West Main St., New Concord.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the College Drive Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Mary Jane Knapp officiating.

Burial will be in New Concord Cemetery.
