"an ancient silver spoon ... tradition relates that this spool one belonged to Anna, the wife of Daniel Gates, of Stow, and the letters engraved upon it were reputed to be the initials of Anna Eveleth Gates ... But a conveyance of property by Joseph Eveleth of Ipswich (father of John), shows that his daughter's name was Hannah, and that she was unmarried in 1719, at which time Daniel Gates had been married five years or more.
[Note: the deed is not identified, and may be unrecorded, but another Essex deed Vol. 37, p. 104 from Joseph to sons Isaac & Edward equivalently identifies his daughter as "Hannah Eveleth" in 1720, long after Daniel Gates was married.]
