Slashed Husband, 83, And Set Fire To Home, Her Husband Tells Police
Police held the 40-year-old "bride" of an 83-year-old man as an arson suspect last night after she allegedly cut him, then set fire to his home at 2010 Vine St., early yesterday. The "bride," registered as Mrs. Anna Reynolds, 13 E. University Ave., told police she was married "about two months ago," but that she had separated from her husband three weeks ago. The "bridegroom," Jacob Reynolds, told police his estranged wife set fire to a rear of his second-floor apartment when he was telephoning them for assistance. Patrolmen Russell Arey, Clarence Ludlow and Donald Schneeman, responding to Reynolds's call, discovered a blazing bundle of laundry and newspapers in the room and quickly extinguished the flames. They said Reynolds called for them after his wife cut him on his right hand with a knife in front of his home. Mrs. Reynolds would make no comment when she surrendered at Central Station late yesterday.

After ordering a charge of cutting to kill changed to assault and battery, Municipal Judge Clarence Denning fined Mrs. Anna Reynolds, 40, 13 E. University Ave., costs. She was prosecuted by her 84-year-old husband of 10 weeks, Jacob Reynolds, 2012 Vine St. Reynolds charged that after he had prosecuted his wife in Police Court a month ago, she went to his home June 24, told him, "You reported in court I beat you up; I might just as well finish it now," struck him with her purse, then cut his hand with a small knife. A short time later, police and firemen were summoned to put out a fire in the home and found Reynolds's hand bleeding. None of Reynolds's witnesses said they saw a knife, but they charged Mrs. Reynolds hit her husband and knocked him down. She said he was cut by a key she held in her hand. Mrs. Reynolds admitted under cross-examination that her marriage to Reynolds April 28 was a "business arrangement." He was to support her and her two children and she was to take care of the house. She said she had been married three times before.

MUNICIPAL COURTS Second Court Bout Is Lost By Professional Model Mrs. Ellen Jones Tyler, 27, 629 E. Fifth St., professional model lost her second bout within a week in Police Court yesterday when Judge Clarence Denning fined her $10 and costs on an assault charge. The prosecuting witness, Mrs. Anna Funk, 13 E. University Ave., charged that the model lunged at her three times with a paring knife in the kitchen of the home of Dr. Gerald Tyler, physician with offices in the Neave Building and former husband of the defendant, at 2509 Auburn Ave., last Thursday. Mr. Tyler denied attempting to knife Mrs. Funk. She asserted she went to the home, where she lived until last Wednesday, to obtain personal belongings. She said she did this on advice of her attorney, W. F. Hopkins. Mrs. Funk refused to let Mrs. Tyler remove anything until Mrs. Tyler called police, the defendant contended ...
