Ann was originally named Ann Spenser in these notes, but the marriage registration gives the surname as "Spencer", the much commoner spelling. (Ancestry provides less than 20 Spensers in its birth index.)
In the first three different censuses following her marriage, her birthplace is given as three different locations. None could be backed up by a birth registration. In 1911, when the census form was theoretically filled in by the householder, the mystery is solved.
