Ann Riley's origins have yet to be established. The age given when she died suggests she was born around 1778. Ann's first confirmed sighting is on 11th March 1817 when she married a labourer called Thomas Lewis at Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire. He was from the neighbouring parish of Willen and had been married twice before, having two surviving children from his first marriage to whom Ann became stepmother.

Ann and Thomas do not appear to have had any children together. Ann died in 1834, when she was said to be 56 years old. She was buried at Willen on 2nd October 1834. Thomas survived her by nearly seventeen years.
