Ann Pratt was baptised on 26th October 1817 at Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire, daughter of Thomas Pratt, a labourer, and his wife Nanny.
Ann was married on 12th October 1840 to George Rowe, who worked variously as an agricultural labourer, lime burner and stone mason's labourer. They had nine children between 1841 and 1860, although it seems at least two died young. The 1841 census finds them living at Parrotts Piece in Leighton Buzzard, next door to George's parents. In the late 1840s they moved across the river Ouzel to the neighbouring parish of Linslade in Buckinghamshire, where at least two of their children were born. They appear in Linslade in the 1851 census at living at Timber Yard on Leighton Road. Ann was working at this time as a straw plaiter; straw plaiting for making hats was one of the main local industries. They returned to Leighton Buzzard in the mid 1850s, and appear there in the 1861 census living on Steppingstone Road.
By 1871 they had settled on Back Lane in Leighton Buzzard, where Ann and George appear to have lived for the rest of their lives, appearing there together in each census from 1871 to 1891. George died on 28th April 1896 at 6 Back Lane. Ann survived him by just over ten years. In the 1901 census she was still living at 6 Back Lane, which was described as having four rooms, with two granddaughters.
Ann died in 1906, aged 88.
