Ann Godfrey was baptised on 12th July 1789 at Shillington[8] in Bedfordshire, daughter of Joseph and Mary Godfrey.
On 2nd December 1809, aged 20, Ann married James Bent. They married at Hexton, a neighbouring parish to Shillington. Their first child was baptised at Hexton the following year. They then appear to have moved to the Cockernhoe area. Cockernhoe is a hamlet in the parish of Offley, but it is three miles from Offley's parish church; the churches at Lilley, King's Walden and Luton are nearer, and James and Ann seem to have had children baptised at each of those churches as well as at Offley. They had at least six children. James worked as an agricultural labourer and straw plait dealer.
The 1841 census finds Ann and James living at Cockernhoe Green with some of their children. They were still there in 1851, with just their daughter Ann Maria living with them by that time.
James died in 1859, aged 71. Ann survived him by nearly six years, appearing in the 1861 census with her daughter Ann Maria. She died at Cockernhoe on 3rd November 1865, aged 76. She left an will, with her estate being valued at under £200.

The Will of Ann Bent late of Cockernhoe in the Parish of Offley in the County of Hertford Widow deceased who died 3 November 1865 at Cockernhoe aforesaid was proved at the Principal Registry by the oaths of Henry Samuel Thomas Ward of Breachwood Green in the Parish of King's Walden in the County aforesaid Farmer and William Lovell of the Parish of Offley aforesaid Labourer the Executors.
